New Photograph Found

It seems like new photographs and new information just keep coming.

This photograph was recently donated to the museum. The donor had seen it for sale from a commercial company that specializes in estate sales. Unfortunately, the photograph lacks any information about when or where the picture was taken.

It clearly dates from the latter part of World War II, or shortly after the war, since Razorback's two 5" 25-caliber guns are visible.

This photograph will soon be on exhibit in our museum.

Copies can be purchased by contacting the museum.

Submarine Photos from LIFE Magazine Now Available on Google

Google has opened an online photo gallery that will feature millions of images from Life magazine's archives. Most of these images have have never been seen by the public before, because about 97 percent of the magazine's collection have never been published.

The new service, available at http://images.google.com/hosted/life, debuted yesterday with about 2 million photos. The entire collection consists of approximately 10 million images.

Among the photographs in the collection are a number of photographs of submarines. Among the many photographs available are USS R-12 (SS-89) (shown at the top), the first nuclear powered submarine, USS Nautilus (SSN-571) (above), and the first nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine, USS George Washington (SSBN-598) (below). Many other submarines are already featured in the collection.
